Artists That Helped My Anxiety
Hello Friends,
Kinneret (New-age)
Melanie Martinez (Indie-pop, Alt)
Ariana Grande (Pop, Contemporary R&B)
YGTUT (Hip-Hop, Soul)
It's Tati, your favorite paranoid cutie. Today's blog is an interesting take on different musical artist that I have been listening to that seem to calm my anxiety. I have been dealing with crippling anxiety for a very long time (before it became a trend *side-eye*). I will be doing a separate post about my experience and every day life dealing with severe anxiety at a later date. I will be naming a few musical artist that I have been listening to when I feel overwhelmed, it has become a part of my everyday ritual to listen to at least one of these artist to assist with calming myself. Mind you I opted out of taking pills for my anxiety, that's is why I have adopted a ritual to help with my severe anxiety, which seems to help. I will be doing a post about my full ritual soon.
Most of the artist being named are in the same type of genre, new-age, indie, alt, but I do have some artist that specialize in soul and rap. This is not a list of my favorite artist (some artist named our my favs though 😉). The songs listed below are just my favorite songs to listen to from these artist while feeling anxious or having anxiety. Let's get into this list (not in a particular order):
Evann McIntosh (R&B/Soul)
Evann is young but her music is so influential and inspiring. I find that the melodies in her music calm my frayed nerves. When I have social anxiety, its so easy to pull out my phone and turn on her album, Mojo and I find my worries melting away as I hum her songs. This may sound strange but her music makes me feel safe. I would recommend these to songs two first time listeners.
- Do you mind?
- A Walk Inside My Mind
Willow (Alt, Neo-soul, Alt R&B)
Do I even have to explain how powerful Willow is? She is a light in my eyes for the youth. Not only does her music carry passion, good vibes, and powerful messages, but her voice is so calming and soothing to my soul. I often listen to her music in the morning while I feel my most anxious. If you haven't listened to Willow (WTF) and after you finish reading this go listen to these two recommended songs, after that listen to her whole fucking discography.
- Time Machine
- Marceline
- R I S E (Willow & Jahnavi Harrison)
Kinneret (New-age)
Kinneret is the newest artist I discovered out of this list. My first time hearing her was at the beginning of 2020. OMG, I didn't know how bad I needed her music. I love her story and the messages behind her songs. Her music is already so good its hard to believe that she is still in the beginning stages of her career. I love turning on Kinneret while driving in the car, especially in traffic due to the anxiety of being in a literal death trap 😀. I would recommend these songs to start off with.
- Spoon Bending!
- Spaceship Race ( ONE OF MY FAV SONGS)
Melanie Martinez (Indie-pop, Alt)
Melanie Martinez is one of my all time favorite artist. Her music definitely got me through my last years of school. I will go into more depth about how much I love her in a future blog. I love the messages behind her music and how much work she puts into each project. I love turning on some Melanie at anytime of the day honestly, but I notice I turn her on most when I'm anxious around others or when I am feeling my low peaks throughout the day. If you haven't listen to her music start off with the songs listed below, then listen to every damn track in her discography ❤.
- Pacify Her
- Cry Baby
Ariana Grande (Pop, Contemporary R&B)
In the words of Nicki Minaj, Young Ariana run pop (LOL). Seriously, do I have to go into detail about this wonderful talent that walks Earth. I listen to her even when I'm not feeling anxious but I love to put on her song breathin' when I get extremely overwhelmed. The first time I listened to the song it brung me to tears, not to even mention the story behind the song. It's so special to me to listen to her singing about something so personal that she goes through (anxiety/panic attacks) and its special to me that we share the same struggle but both decide to overcome it. Not only is she one of my favorite artist but her music is so inspiring and influential to my everyday life. Listen to her whole discography but these are my two favorites to listen to while extremely anxious:
- get well soon
- breathin'
YGTUT (Hip-Hop, Soul)
YGTUT is a artist very near to my heart. I can listen to his music all day really. He is an underground rapper who's music talks a lot about his experience with the law, his childhood, friends, and really anything that's important to him. You can tell how much passion he puts into his projects and it makes me happy that he cares about his listeners so much. I listen to Tut everyday to be honest, but I find myself listening to his music a lot when I workout. I get so much anxiety working out around others or even by myself, I notice when I'm feeling anxious or uncomfortable and I listen to his music I get a sense of confidence. Thank you for your art and sharing your talent. If you haven't heard of YGTUT, let me put you on. Thank me later 😄. Start with these songs down below.
- Highs & Lows
